On 26 January 2028 the Moon will pass in front of the Sun without covering it completely: a bright ring will be left behind. Marbella sits inside the path where the ring is visible, and it will happen with the Sun already low, setting over the sea.
The band where the ring is visible crosses Spain from southwest to northeast and is only a hundred to a hundred and fifty kilometres wide. Marbella falls inside it. Outside, you only get a partial eclipse, which is not the same thing at all.
It begins at 16:35 and the Sun sets still eclipsed, at around 18:38. It happens very low, almost touching the horizon: you need a clear view west, and here what is clear is the sea.
It falls in the quiet season, when the Costa del Sol has its best prices and its twenty-degree afternoons. Anyone spending the winter here will see it without leaving town.
No overselling: at that hour the Sun will be only a few degrees above the horizon, so what matters is not how high the building is but having a clean view west. The beach is five minutes on foot, and from the shore the horizon is open sea with nothing in front of it.
From the terrace the sunset sits over to the right. On a good day you can follow it comfortably, but with the Sun that low any haze counts, so we would rather say it straight: the best spot is the shore, and it is right here.
